THREE 2ND ALARM FIRES.
While everyone was having breakfast and commuting to work, the Chester Fire Department (CFD) was dispatched to a smoke investigation near Gibson Hill Road in the Trout Brook section of Chester. Less than 5 minutes later, the CFD was dispatched to a reported working structure fire on High Street in the Village of Chester, on the opposite end of Town. Car 3 arrived on High Street and immediately transmitted a second alarm calling additional resources from surrounding fire districts. Car 3 also requested Greenwood Lake FD to respond to cover the initial smoke investigation call on Gibson Hill Road.
Chester PD arrived on scene and observed heavy black smoke in the area of McGinnisberg Mountain Road which was found to be coming from an active house fire. Units from Station 3, initially responding to High Street, redirected to McGinnisberg Mountain Road. Units were met with a half-mile, unplowed and icy roadway which made the initial response difficult, causing first responding units to get stuck on multiple occasions far away from the fire. After minutes of navigating the terrain, a hose deployment of nearly 400 feet was made while Chester DPW cleared the roadway for additional water supply resources.
After fighting both fires for an extended period of time, Chester FD returned to service before being called to another working structure fire at 20:04 in the Sugar Loaf section of Chester. Car 1 arrived on scene and transmitted a second alarm, causing our neighboring mutual aid departments to return.
This marked three multi-alarm fires in 1 day for the Chester Fire Department after members traveled to South Blooming Grove the day prior to assist at a multi-alarm apartment complex fire.
